What is a mockup and why does it matter?

A mockup is a realistic image that shows your design or document displayed in a real-world setting — for example, your fundraising poster shown on a wall, or your PDF guide displayed as a physical book on a desk.

Mockups matter because people buy the experience, not just the product. When someone sees your sponsorship letter template displayed as a beautiful printed document on a clean desk, they immediately understand its value. When they just see a flat PDF icon, they do not.

The top sellers on Etsy and Gumroad — who sell digital downloads for £5–£20 each — all use mockups for their product images. It is one of the biggest factors in whether someone clicks "Buy" or scrolls past.

Click AI Tools in the top navigation, then find Mockup Generator

You will see two options: AI Mockup (generates a completely new scene around your image) and Template Mockup (places your image into a pre-made scene). For fundraising materials, AI Mockup gives the most impressive results.

Click AI Mockup. Upload your design — this could be your fundraising poster, your PDF cover, or any graphic you have created.

Write a scene description. Here are some examples:

For a poster: "Pinned to a clean white wall in a bright, modern school corridor, natural daylight, professional photography"

For a PDF/ebook: "Displayed as a physical book lying on a clean white marble desk, next to a cup of coffee and a small plant, soft natural light, lifestyle product photography"

For a social media graphic: "Shown on a rose gold iPhone screen, held by a teenager's hand, bright outdoor daylight, lifestyle photography"

Create mockups for three of your fundraising materials:
