What to charge

£10 per personalised song is the recommended starting price. Here is why that works:

Less than a birthday card and chocolates combined
Feels like a bargain for something unique
Easy to pay via bank transfer or PayPal
Low enough that people do not hesitate

When to charge more

£15–20 for milestone birthdays (18th, 21st)
£20 for same-day/urgent orders
£15 for longer songs (2+ verses)
£25 for a song + printed lyric card

Important — commercial rights: If you are selling songs, you need a Suno paid plan to have full commercial use rights. The Basic plan starts at around £8/month. At £10 per song, you only need to sell one song a month to cover the cost. Everything after that is profit.

How to advertise your service

You do not need a website or a business card. You just need to tell people. Here are the most effective ways to get your first orders:

Tell people directly

The most effective method. Tell your friends, your family, people in your Scout group or sports team. Say: "I am making personalised birthday songs for £10 to raise money for my expedition. Know anyone with a birthday coming up?"

Post a sample on social media

Create a short demo song (you can make one about yourself) and post it. Caption: "I am making personalised birthday songs for £10 to raise money for [your expedition]. DM me if you want one for someone's birthday!" Ask a parent or guardian to help if you are under 13.

Put up a notice at school or your club

A simple A5 flyer with a QR code linking to your WhatsApp or email. You can make this in Canva (there is a whole course on that in The Skills Lab).

How to take an order

Keep it simple. When someone wants to order a song, ask them these questions — via WhatsApp, text, or email:

Hi! To make the song, I just need a few details:
1. What is the person's name?
2. How old are they turning?
3. Tell me 2–3 things about them (hobbies, interests, personality)
4. What style of song? (upbeat/fun, emotional/heartfelt, funny)
5. When do you need it by?

Once I have these, I will create the song and send it to you. Payment is £10 by bank transfer — I will send you my details when the song is ready. 🎵
