Not all shopping earns the same. These three categories are where the real money is โ and making sure your supporters know about them could double your total.
โฑ 10 minutes๐ Reading + task๐ฏ Lesson 5 of 6
easyfundraising works with over 8,000 retailers โ but they do not all pay the same rate. A weekly grocery shop at Tesco earns a small percentage. A holiday booking or an insurance renewal earns significantly more.
The key is to make sure your supporters know about the three categories of shopping that earn the most โ because these are the ones that can transform your fundraising total from a trickle into something really significant.
๐
Big Earner #1 โ Weekly Grocery Shopping
Consistent, year-round, adds up over time
The weekly grocery shop is the most consistent earner because it happens every single week, all year round. The cashback rate per shop is small โ around 0.5% at most supermarkets โ but the consistency is what makes it powerful.
Example: A supporter does a ยฃ100 weekly Tesco shop. At 0.5%, that is 50p per shop. Over 52 weeks, that is ยฃ26 per year from one supporter's groceries alone. Multiply that by 10 supporters and you have ยฃ260 โ raised purely from people's normal weekly shopping.
๐ Estimated per supporter per year: ยฃ20โยฃ30

Big Earner #2 โ Holidays and Travel Bookings
High value, high cashback rate โ one booking can make a big difference
Travel is where easyfundraising really shines. Holiday bookings are high-value purchases, and the cashback rates from travel companies are much higher than from supermarkets โ typically 2โ4%.
Example: A supporter books a family holiday to Spain for ยฃ1,500 through TUI. At 3% cashback, that is ยฃ45 from a single booking. If they also book a city break for ยฃ600, that is another ยฃ18. Two holidays in a year from one supporter could raise ยฃ60+.
Retailers to mention to your supporters: TUI, Jet2, easyJet Holidays, Booking.com, Hotels.com, Airbnb, National Express, Eurostar.
๐ Estimated per supporter per year: ยฃ30โยฃ60 (if they book a holiday)
๐
Big Earner #3 โ Annual Insurance Renewals
One renewal can earn more than months of grocery shopping
This is the one most people forget to mention โ and it is one of the biggest earners on the platform. Car insurance, home insurance, and travel insurance all pay significant cashback rates through easyfundraising.
Example: A supporter renews their car insurance through Compare the Market. easyfundraising can earn up to ยฃ15 from a single insurance comparison. If they also renew their home insurance, that could be another ยฃ10โยฃ15. Two insurance renewals in a year could raise ยฃ25โยฃ30 from one supporter.
Retailers to mention: Compare the Market, MoneySuperMarket, GoCompare, Direct Line, Admiral, Aviva.
๐งก Estimated per supporter per year: ยฃ20โยฃ40
๐
Add it all up โ the real potential
If one supporter does all three โ regular grocery shopping, one holiday booking, and their annual insurance renewals โ they could raise between ยฃ75 and ยฃ100 for your trip in a single year. And they have not spent a single extra penny.
Now multiply that by 10 supporters. That is ยฃ750โยฃ1,000 raised in a year โ completely passively, while you are getting on with everything else.
The fundraisers who truly understand easyfundraising focus on these three categories. They remind their supporters before the holiday booking season. They send a message in January when insurance renewals are common. They keep the momentum going all year.
๐ When to remind your supporters
โ
January: "Insurance renewal season โ don't forget to use easyfundraising when you renew your car or home insurance!"
โ
March/April: "Holiday booking season โ if you're booking a summer holiday, please go through easyfundraising first!"
โ
November: "Black Friday and Christmas shopping โ easyfundraising works with Amazon, John Lewis, Currys and hundreds more!"
โ
Any time: Share your running total โ "My easyfundraising total is now ยฃ83 โ thank you all so much!"
โ Your task โ send a Big Three message to your supporters
1
Write a short WhatsApp message to your supporters mentioning the Big Three
2
Specifically mention holidays and insurance โ most people do not realise these earn so much
3
Keep it short and friendly โ you are not selling anything, just reminding them
