How this works

Below are three fundraising challenges. For each one, you will write a complete RTDF prompt using your own real details — then copy it into ChatGPT and see what it produces.

There are no wrong answers here. The point is to practise the habit of thinking through all four parts before you type. The more you do this, the more natural it becomes — and the better your results will be, every single time.

Use your real situation These challenges are much more useful if you use your actual fundraising details — your real name, your real trip, your real target. The output from ChatGPT will then be something you can genuinely use, not just an exercise.

Challenge 1: The Sponsorship Letter

Write an RTDF prompt that produces a sponsorship letter you could actually send to a local business in your area. Use a real business if you can — it makes the output far more useful.

I have written my Role (who the AI is and who it is helping)

I have included my Detail (name, age, school, target, business name, what I am asking for)

I have written my Format (length, tone, structure, ending)

Challenge 2: The Social Media Post

Write an RTDF prompt that produces three Instagram or Facebook captions for your fundraising campaign. Think about who your audience is — friends, family, or the wider public — and adjust your Role and Format accordingly.

I have written a Role suited to social media content

My Task asks for three captions (not just one)

My Detail includes my fundraising goal, how much I have raised so far, and what platform the captions are for

My Format specifies a word limit and asks for a call to action

I have tested it in ChatGPT and the captions feel right for my audience

Challenge 3: Your Fundraising Plan

This is the most useful one. Write an RTDF prompt that asks the AI to create a week-by-week fundraising plan for you — from now until your deadline. Include your target amount, how much you have already raised, and any ideas you are already considering.

My Role sets the AI up as a strategic fundraising planner

My Task asks for a week-by-week plan with specific actions

My Detail includes my total target, amount raised so far, deadline, and any constraints (school commitments, budget for expenses etc.)

My Format asks for a structured table or numbered list that is easy to follow

I have a plan I can actually follow — and I have saved it somewhere
