What is it?

A Zumbathon is a high-energy, non-stop Zumba dance fitness class held as a fundraising event. Participants pay an entry fee to take part in a 1–2 hour dance session led by a qualified Zumba instructor. It is an incredibly inclusive event — no fitness experience is required, it is suitable for all ages, and it is enormous fun. Zumbathons are one of the most popular and easy-to-organise fitness fundraisers for teenagers.

What you need

  • A large indoor venue such as a school hall, village hall, or sports centre (aim for at least 50 square metres of clear floor space)
  • A qualified Zumba instructor (ask if they will donate their time for charity)
  • A good quality Bluetooth speaker or PA system
  • A registration table and cash float
  • Water bottles or a water station for participants
  • A fun, energetic playlist (your instructor will provide this)

Step-by-step plan

1
Contact local Zumba instructors and ask if they would be willing to donate 1–2 hours of their time to lead a charity Zumbathon. Many will say yes — it is great publicity for them too.
2
Book a suitable venue. School halls are ideal and are often free for student fundraisers.
3
Set your ticket price. £5–£10 per person is standard. Offer a family ticket (2 adults + 2 children) for a slight discount.
4
Promote the event 3–4 weeks in advance on social media, at school, and via local community groups.
5
On the day, set up the venue with clear floor space, a registration table at the entrance, and a water station.
6
Run the Zumbathon in two 45-minute sessions with a 10-minute break in between. Use the break to run a raffle or announce a prize.
7
After the event, count your takings and thank your instructor publicly on social media.

How to advertise it

  • Create a short, fun promotional video showing Zumba moves and post it on TikTok and Instagram
  • Post in local mums and community Facebook groups — parents love Zumbathons
  • Put up posters at local gyms, leisure centres, and schools
  • Ask your Zumba instructor to promote it to their existing class members
  • Offer a prize for the most enthusiastic dancer on the night

Realistic earnings

With 40 participants at £8 each, you raise £320. Add a raffle on the night and you can easily reach £300–£400 profit from a single evening event.

Top tips

✅ Ask the instructor to teach a short "taster" section at the start for complete beginners so nobody feels left out
✅ Sell healthy snacks and water during the break to boost your total
✅ Run a "best dancer" competition with a small prize — it encourages participation and creates great content for social media
✅ Decorate the venue with fairy lights and coloured lighting to create a fun, club-like atmosphere

Common mistakes to avoid

⚠️ Booking a venue that is too small — you need plenty of space for people to move freely
⚠️ Not having enough water available — dancing is thirsty work
⚠️ Forgetting to promote the event early enough — aim for at least 3 weeks of promotion
⚠️ Not having a cash float ready for the registration table
